Have Gavel - Will Travel!

NEW IDEA!!!

At the Tuesday, January 15th, meeting of Harlan Lodge, we were informed by Masonic Homes Ambassodor, Brother Billy Lewis (Nolen No. 806) that the Masonic Homes of Kentucky were asking for lodges to assist them in fundraising. In an effort to generate some money, it was suggested by Brother Hollace Wilson that we used the Traveling Gavel to make money. Brother Brutus Metcalf stated the money donated should be for the Masonic Homes. Six lodges were represented at the meeting and the members thought that it would be a great idea to get money as well as foster more visiting from lodges. So from now on, if a lodge goes to get a gavel, a hat will be passed around and that money will be given to the Masonic Homes. The gavel must sit at a lodge for at least two stated meetings to allow other lodges to come get it. On the otherhand, if the Gavel sits at a lodge for more than two consectutive meetings, it becomes HOT and the members of that Lodge can take the gavel to a sister lodge and in return, a donation is taken up by the lodge bringing the gavel to the sister lodge. We ask that the Gavel keeps moving to generate the much needed money for the Masonic Homes of Kentucky. So lets get it going!

You want the gavel for your lodge? Then go get it. You have to bring at least three officers from your lodge and as many members as you think it will take to bring home the gavel. The more you bring, the better your chances! The lodge that brings the most members with at least three officers gets to take home the gavel.

What about a tie? In this instance, the lodge that traveled the farthest will win.

We're hoping to keep everyone abreast of where the gavel is on this website. Therefore, if your lodge captures the gavel, please send an email to us at gavel@harlanlodge.org informing us of your win and what date and time you regularly meet, so we may post that information. If you don't have email access, telephone Hollace, the webmaster at 606-573-7446 and we'll update this page to reflect it's location.

Currently the District 30 Traveling Gavel is at:

Bell Lodge No. 691 which next meets on 2nd and 4th Mondays @ 7:00 pm.
